Happy St. Patrick’s day, with Love

St. Patricks's Day kitties

What’s the craic, my friends? I’m excited to be wishing you a Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I have many good memories of my home country of Ireland, where I stayed with my The Lady Cat in green and hilly Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. My friend, Sarabi and I, used to go for long walks on the nearby beaches, climbing over boulders and savoring the sand between our paws. Those were the good old days of my youth.

I’m a retired show cat who was born in County Cork, Ireland and I used to travel all over to strut my stuff and show off my good looks and temperament in shows around Ireland and once in England too. I got to travel on a ferry! I am an Asian Blue Ticked Tabby, originating from the silky Burmese breed and we come in all color types. I don’t get too caught up in titles but I have earned a few. My full name is Coomakista Ninh Earl Grey and I am also a Supreme Premier and Tara Grand Premier. I am also the first Asian Ticked Tabby to hold these titles and to have three Best of Varieties at Irish Supreme Shows. Despite my grand titles, I’m a very mellow and down to earth old chap, preferring these days, to rest in my catio condo and watch birds. Although I have a calm demeanor I am not a pushover and when the young punks need some training on proper kitty etiquette and basic house rules I’m always showing them the ropes with a firm paw.

I remember when they brought Sarabi home to stay back in 2002. I didn’t like her at all because I was an only cat for a while. But Sarabi, being a vocal Bengal, quickly showed me that she is very much going to be a part of the household and I should get used to it. Yes, Sarabi is on the feisty side, trust me, you would rather want to be on the other side of her feisty. But because I’m all about peace, the very next day I went up to her and started grooming her and we became firm friends ever since that moment.

Although I was born in Ireland, I consider myself a cat of the world. I am very lucky to have stayed in three different countries and to have experienced different cat cultures. Some cats are indoor only, some are outdoor and indoor, some are allowed to hunt and bring you surprises and some are feral.

But us cats are all essentially the same everywhere. It doesn’t matter what breed you are, whether Bengal, Persian or domestic shorthair, Irish or Canadian, we all have the same hearing, sight and instincts and most of all we want love, affection and a forever home to grow old with our chosen human. Yes, we all have our differences and preferences too. We argue over space and time sharing the sun puddles in the house, but our minor little squabbles are nothing to lose sleep over, ever! One day my younger delinquent housemates, the two “Yoots” will learn this too, to be a little more tolerant and be more willing to share their spaces. I’m sure the humans can learn from this too.

So kiss me, but not because I’m Irish, but because I share love, kisses and head boops to all the kitties and their humans out there.

Update: On December 1, 2018, at the grand old age of 17 years old, I asked my humans to help me grow my wings after my long battle with kidney disease. Please don’t feel sad for me, I’m happy and pain-free, guardian of the catnip fields at the Rainbow Bridge. In the video below, you can watch the story of my life.

My human always told me that her heart belongs to me. But now I let her know that I am closer to her than her own heartbeat.
