Caturday Art: The Making of Sarabi the Cat Sculpture

One of my other passions is makings things by hand and seeing how it transforms into something new.

Whether it’s getting my hands dirty in the garden and watching things grow, or shaping a piece of clay and seeing what it becomes. Many of my Caturday Doodles are digital drawings. I like doing digital art, but much like the red dot means for cat, you can feel it but can’t touch it. Making sculptures is such a tactile medium and is literally ‘hands-on.’  Building those layers and shaping a piece of art is the most relaxing way to spend your weekend! It’s even sweeter when the subject is my all time favorite muse, cats! What else?  Read More

How to change the world with one unique paw shake

There’s a heck of a lot of things I could do if I had thumbs, real thumbs. I could use the can opener to feed myself when the humans drag their heels serving us breakfast, I could take up crafts and make my own cat toys. And stealing catnip from the treat cupboard would be like taking a ball of yarn from a kitten. It’s What if Cats and Dogs Had Opposable Thumbs Day and cats and dogs around the world are taking this day to think about the many tasks that we could accomplish if we had opposable thumbs.

Humans are primates and have thumbs which they think give them a certain superiority over Felis Silvestris Catus. But don’t get too smug about your thumbs, human, because I have something special too.

7 Tips to turn your bully cat into a team player.

Last updated April 19th, 2023

When your cat goes around giving everyone in his path a powder puff for no reason, it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s aggressive. When your one cat is bullying another cat things can quickly escalate into an unwanted behavioral problem. There’s one in every multi-cat household and through no fault of his own, he’s labeled the “bully cat.”

When we add more cats to an already established group, it causes a shift in the cat hierarchy. The shift may be as obvious as a stare down and a brawl with fur flying or it may be very subtle, such as blocking the pathway to a litter box. The resident high ranking cat may or may not relinquish his title as Top Cat … at first, or maybe never.

Mr. Jack, watch your back!

But that doesn’t stop the cat with ambitions to keep trying by asserting his dominance over the rest of the clan through undesirable behaviors. This could include anything from relentlessly ambushing and chasing a timid, docile cat, guarding litter boxes, taking ownership of toys, games, sun puddles and refusing to timeshare.

Is your kitty as cold as ice?

It’s a nice sunny day, so instead of Caturday cuddles, we were presented with a rather bizarre scenario in our catio. He’s cold, hard, doesn’t respond to head boops and he can’t even meow.

Hello there, give us a hiss, show us what you got, ice cat.

We are still uncertain about the purpose of this soulless cat with empty eyes and no purr. Not even a hiss! We thoroughly inspected this imposter and he has neither taste nor smell.

Does your cat’s performance of breakfast acatpella wake you before your alarm goes off? You’re not alone. The human struggle is real!

Our most riveting ‘Acatpella’ performance at breakfast time!

There are not many things us cats do together as a team. Of course, there’s synchronized sleeping and grooming, but those things are largely accidental and form part of the random humdrum existence of cat life. But there is an activity that unites us all towards a common goal, and that is performing our morning song to be fed our breakfast on time. If you have never heard of ‘A-cat-pella’ before, you have never lived in a multi-cat household. This is the moment when we set aside our differences with the dawning of each new day and unite as “team cat”, performing our morning song with unrivaled purpose and vigor. Our harmonies are sweet, yet tinged with an urgency that screams “hear the cry of our starving clan”.
